Rocher-Ros Lab in Ecosystem Ecology
Carbon cycling in northern stream networks
Welcome to our lab! This is the lab website of Gerard Rocher-Ros, Assisant Professor at Umeå University,at the Integrated Science Lab (IceLab) and the department of Ecology, Environmental and Geoscience. We work in the broad field of ecosystem ecology, with an emphasis on carbon cycling across terrestrial and aqutic ecosystems. In this lab we combine observational, experimental and modelling approaches, to understand how the movement of energy and matter in landscapes shapes ecosystems in face of climate change, with water as the main vector of connectivity.
We are mostly based in Icelab, a quite unique place where scientists from multiple disciplines (physics, mathematics, ecology, plant science, molecular biology, etc) with a shared interest in modelling and finding unifying principles in nature sit in the same physical place. In my group we will be thinking how to develop models of ecosystem processes starting with metabolic dynamics in river networks, check for opportunities or contact us to arrange a visit if interested!
The empirical research work is largely carried out within the Climate Impacts Research Centre (CIRC), based in Abisko (northern Sweden). This is great environment to study Arctic ecosystems, and where Umeå University has some key infrastrucutre that supports our work.
